There are a number of intiatives currently being pursued within the Duddon catchment:
- A fencing project on a tributary of the river Duddon. This will prevent poaching by cattle on what is one of our prime spawning becks. A meeting with the landowner is taking place.
- An investigation into fish passage on a weir on Black Beck, one of the 4 rivers under DRA umbrella. A survey has been conducted and we are now seeking landowner consent.
- An investigation into modifying a tidal flap to allow access by fish and European eels into a small beck whch runs into the Duddon estuary. A site visit took place last week.
- The Riverfly monitoring continues and more surveys are planned this year on the three smaller rivers in the DRA catchment which are known to have a run of salmonids.
Kirkby Pool, R Lickle and Black Beck. - A minor pollution incident was dealt with on a tributary of the R Duddon this month, which underlines the need for continual viglance.
If you are interested in getting involved in helping to action any of these projects or would just like to find out more please get in touch.
